I want to highlight three major changes in the 3.0 update. The first being alpha tags and alpha tag alerts. Earlier this year I added alpha tag support to iScan for iOS and it’s been a hit. Alpha tags allow you to see which channel is active on the feed you’re monitoring. An example of this could be say you’re listening to Baltimore County Fire. The alpha tag for their dispatch channel is “BCFD Main”. Every time “BCFD Main” is active on the Baltimore County Fire feed iScan will show display this below the feed’s name. Alpha tag alerts allow you to receive an alert on your Mac every time the alpha tag changes. For example if the alpha tag changes from Scanning to “BCFD Main” iScan will post a notification like other Mac apps showing you the new Alpha tag. Secondly, I wanted to highlight the ability to search maps. This is a popular request and I’m so happy to be adding it to iScan. You can now search addresses of the calls you hear in iScan from within the app. There is a new search bar above the Map simply type in the address and the map will show you where it is. It is sometimes needed to include the state or city of an address as the Map can get confused and go somewhere completely different. Finally, the mini-player. I have received many request for full screen mode and a mini player. I think it is awesome to hear how users plan on using iScan in different ways. So I have added both to iScan for Mac 3.0. The mini-player will automatically appear when you close the main window and have a feed playing. The mini-player window is transparent and will remain on top of other windows you have open on your mac so you can view alpha tags and control the volume as well as playing and pausing the feed. Full screen mode can be activated just as any other mac app with full screen support; simply click the two arrows in the upper right hand corner of the window and iScan will become full screen. It’s an amazing new feature and you have to see it for yourself.
iScan for Mac 3.0 has been completely rewritten from the ground up. Allowing me to remove plenty of bugs and unwanted weight in the code. This new version sets the path for future updates and I hope you all enjoy it. As always feel free to contact me with any support related issues or just to let me know how you use iScan and how I can make it even easier and more enjoyable for you. I'm always intersting in hearing how users use iScan, some in ways I've never imagined.
